My Week with Jasper (AI That Is)

If you do a quick search for AI writing tools, Jasper AI will come up as one of the top recommendations. Marketed as a place for "AI-powered tools to ideate, create, plan, launch, and analyze, accelerating time to value," I was curious to see how beneficial it would be for me. So I clicked on 'Sign-up for a 7-Day Free Trial," and off to the races I went.

Which Jasper AI Tools Helped Me the Most?

The tool I love the most was the Blog Outline tool. I tend to have a good grasp of what I want to say and even love the task of coming up with my own ideas for blog posts; however, organizing an outline for one is time-consuming and not my favorite part of writing. Using the blog tool greatly cut down the amount of time I had to spend doing what I consider to be a tedious task. I found this tool to be most writer and marketing-friendly, offering suggestions for best SEO practices and Meta descriptions. Jasper will even generate an image for you based on the blog idea you have (the image in this blog post was created by Jasper). Once I had madly typed out all my ideas and what I wanted to say, I input this information in a series of questions prompted by Jasper, and it generated an outline for me in under a minute. One afternoon huffing and puffing at my computer alleviated from my day, thanks Jasper AI!

Parts I Could Leave Behind

If you want, Jasper will write all your blog posts and even opinion pieces for you. You can upload your 'Brand Voice' into Jasper so that it will match your style. I still found the writing to be too generic and dry, even after going through multiple 'Brand Voice' options (hoping this doesn't mean I am generic and dry, but that is a discussion for another time). Most of the tools are well-suited for more marketing goals, and it would be best to be used by a business other than a single person. Some of the tools I wanted to try out but couldn't since I did not have a business account were the Content Calendar tool and all of the Create a Campaign tools.

Would I Try Jasper AI Again?

I like writing everything out on my own, so while there are certain features that I found helpful and would use again, Jasper may be better suited for a business that does more marketing than small freelancers. Jasper AI offers free trials, but you do have to pay to get a formal account. I did enjoy the Blog Outline tool quite a bit and could see myself just purchasing a Creator plan, which runs about $39 a month ($468 a year) at the time of publishing this blog.

Jasper AI ended up extending my free trial after I attempted to cancel the first one before I became charged. Using the Blog Post outline will be on my horizons at least until February 24th, 2025. If you are curious to see how it will work for you, in the world of newly AI-powered writing assistants, Jasper AI is worth a shot.
